Published: June 8, 2018
Social media is not a new concept, but businesses using social media strategically is. So, we have put together this quick guide to step you through the process of creating a social media business strategy before you create your first post.
Have a Goal and a Purpose
All social media accounts should first have specific long-term and short-term goals (what you want to achieve and when you want to achieve that by).
Create a purpose for each account (for example: Facebook focuses on current events, Instagram focuses on upcoming events or promotions)
The goal and purpose of your social media accounts is the reason why those who follow you will eventually convert with your business. Whether you want the follower to call your business, sign up for an email list, buy a product or set up a consultation the purpose of your accounts will keep your target audience connected with your brand.
Create a Plan to Reach Your Goals
How many people are you going to share the page with and ask to follow? Of those people, who are you going to ask share the page on there account? (Yours friends + Their friends = Initial Total Potential Reach)
How often will you update content? Research suggests you should update Facebook at least once a day, Instagram 1-2 times per day.
Determine What Content You Need To Make
Ask your target audience what content would interest them. (Research similar popular accounts in your field and see what has been successful for them)
Do they like stories, "how-to" guides, pictures, news, etc.?
Create The First 2 Weeks of Content
Many businesses create accounts only to realize they have nothing to post. Create the content first, so scheduling will be efficient.
Create Your Accounts
Create Your Facebook & Instagram Accounts and fill in EVERYTHING.
Make your profile picture on both accounts the same image and an image that is recognizable to your brand.
Create a cover photo for your Facebook business account, this photo does not need to be the same as your profile picture but needs to align directly with your brand.
Set up your Content Schedule
We recommend Buffer. With a free Buffer account, you can schedule up to 10 posts across 3 different social media accounts.
To stay on top of Instagram hastag trends, we use All Hashtag. All Hashtag is a hastag machine that generates relative hashtags based on the keywords you submit. Type in a keyword in the search box and let the generator do the rest!
Share your page with those you planned on sharing it to in Step 2
Stay On Top of It
Many times, business owners create social media accounts and then forget about them. Build time into your week to make content, read comments and track growth and re-evaluate goals.
