If you already have a personal account that you would like to switch over to a business platform, the setup time can be as little 5 minutes to complete. Follow the 6 simple steps below to getting your Instagram business account setup and running.

6 Simple Steps

1. Download the Instagram App on your Mobile Phone

If you do not have Instagram on your mobile device already, head over to app store to download the free app. The Instagram app is available on both Apple and Android app stores.

2. Create an Account

After downloading and launching the app, you will have the ability to create an account in one of two ways: sign up with an email address or phone number and then create an Instagram username, or create an account using your Facebook credentials and then link your two accounts together. Note that to set up an Instagram business account, you will eventually need to have your account linked to a Facebook account.

3. Connect to Facebook

By default, your new Instagram account will be set up as a personal account. To set up an Instagram Business Account, you will need to link the account to a Facebook Business Page. To do this, click on the profile icon at the bottom right of the screen. Then at the top right corner open the settings menu. Scroll down until you see “Switch to Business Profile”. After clicking through the slideshow, you will get a prompt to link the account to Facebook. Click “Choose a Page” and set the page to “Public”. Then click “Ok”.

4. Complete the Profile Setup

Once you have linked your Instagram account to a Facebook Business Page, go back to the Instagram profile page and click “Edit your Profile”. On this page, you will have the option to add a profile image, a short bio and a website link. When uploading the image and creating the bio, think about how you want your viewers to relate to your business. Use a logo as your profile image that is recognizable, and use specific keywords in your bio.

5. Invite Contacts to Follow You

To start growing your new business account immediately, take advantage for other social media account contacts to create a base Instagram following. In the settings menu, click on “Invite Facebook friends” to send a notification to your entire Facebook network. You can also use “Invite friends” to invite contacts from other networks including Twitter, LinkedIn and Gmail. The greater your Instagram following the more credibility your business will receive.

6. Start Posting

Once you have your Instagram Business account completely setup and customized, don’t wait to start posting. Take advantage of using hashtags in your descriptions to reach the followers your business is targeting. On average, you will need to update Instagram at least once a day to continue to actively engage your following.
